SiSi Wore Sailboats by the Seashore

Thursday, July 26, 2012

A few things about the title of this post. Most of you know me as "L". I also answer to Lindsey, Linds, Hey You, and sometimes even the dog's name (when I'm home and visiting the grandparents, of course.) But to a small crowd under the age of 8, I am known as SiSi (Cici, Sey-Sey, etc.) My godson Evan gave me this nickname when he was a tiny tot and clearly it stuck.

Second, I guess you really can't qualify this as the seashore. But it's close enough, right?

Onto the outfit... This was one of those lazy days where after dragging myself to the gym and yoga, I went back home, crawled into bed, and stayed there until ohhh, about 6pm. Then the guilt of spending the majority of a beautiful day indoors started to creep up on me. So I did what any normal human being would do: cleaned myself up, threw on this cute sailboat blouse, posed for pics, then proceeded to get really drunk off of margaritas. Now that's what I call a successful day. Don't judge.

Shirt: Old Navy; Jeans: Hudson; Necklace: BaubleBar; Wedges: Seychelles; Bangles: Alex & Ani, Bobbles & Lace Boston; Purse: F21

I'm off to NY tonight to see family and friends. See you Monday my dears!

Summer Days

Tuesday, July 24, 2012

With all the craziness that surrounds each of us on a daily basis, it's important to remember how to unplug yourself once in a while. I escaped to NH on Sunday to literally do nothing other than bask in the warm summer sun and cool off in the pool. It was a welcome break from city living and working. After a few hours of no phone and a nap, I was recharged enough to battle my last week at work.

That's right, in less than two weeks I will be starting a new, very exciting job at Rue La La! Bye bye finance, helloooooo fashion! I'm psyched to be working towards my dreams. More on that later!

Dress: ASOS; Belt: J.Crew; Hat: American Eagle

When disconnecting yourself from the world, it's important to also take a step back from constricting clothing and opt for breathable and flowy pieces. I did just that with this super comfy midi dress. I had been on the hunt for the perfect navy and white striped dress for a while now and I'm so glad I waited. This one is perfect!

Happy Tuesday loves!

Seeing Red

Monday, July 23, 2012

Noticing a trend with my summer outfits? I'm slightly obsessed with peplum (as documented HERE and HERE) and scallops (last seen HERE). One of my favorite things about being a girl is being able to wear cute detailed pieces. These red shorts are adorable on their own, but when paired with an eyelet peplum top, the level of femininity skyrockets. I kind of felt like a 50s housewife in this outfit. Anyone else getting that vibe? Maybe it's the puckering on the top or the fact that it sort of looks like an apron. Either way, I embraced it.

Shorts: J.Crew; Tank: Anthropologie (old, cute version HERE); Wedges: Michael Kors; Bracelets: Stella & Dot, Alex & Ani; Sunnies: Chloe; Polish: Essie Tart Deco

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!

Flowers + Stripes

Friday, July 20, 2012

Say hello to my new favorite combination. Okay, so I've actually mixed florals with stripes before, but this outfit made me fall in love all over again. I definitely got a few disapproving "that poor girl got dressed in the dark" looks while I was out and about, but that's to be expected in a town that was recently voted "Worst Dressed" by GQ. (Really Boston?! We can do better than that!)

I wore this out for sushi with my sister a few nights ago. We have had 90+ temps all week but after a huge storm and a tornado warning (only a minor panic attack about that one), the steamy heat dissipated, leaving us with perfect sleeping weather. Which you may or may not know, translates into perfect long-sleeve shirt and skirt weather.

Shirt: H&M; Skirt: F21 (old, cute one HERE); Bag: c/o Rebecca Minkoff & Pose; Sandals: Dolce Vita; Watch: Michael Kors; Bangles: Alex & Ani, gift from a friend

Happy Friday!

Sister Sushi Date

Thursday, July 19, 2012

Meet Taylor. Well, if you're a frequent visitor of my blog, you've already been introduced to my darling younger sister several times. But today, she's trying out her newest title of "model" for L's Fashion Dish. You will begin to see her quite a bit more because in exactly one month, she will be a Boston resident. Not to mention she's a glamazon, will be majoring in fashion merchandising, and loves to play dress up as much as I do. So it's only natural that she'd become a fixture on these pages.

Blouse: Urban Outfitters; Bralet: Urban Outfitters; Jeans: AE; Wedges: Famous Footwear via her big sis; Bangles: Alex & Ani

She wore this out for our sister sushi date last night. How great does that color look on her? I love the printed bralet poking out -- so fun and playful.

Until tomorrow!

Crave vs. Save

Wednesday, July 18, 2012

Ever walk into a store and eye a piece that you physically cannot walk away from? That's what happened to me when I spotted this leather peplum number by Rebecca Minkoff. It's like the thing developed a gravitational pull that would not let me go.

Crave: Rebecca Minkoff via Saks

Now I've justified some ridiculous purchases in the past. But I just couldn't bring myself to spend almost $400 on a top that, even in all its buttery leather suppleness, I probably wouldn't wear more than once or twice. My inner goddess stomped her foot. (Hello, we are talking about a leather bondage-esque top. I couldn't resist the 50 Shades of Grey reference.)

And then as if the stars had aligned, I happened upon THIS just-as-cute-but-much-more-affordable version from Piperlime. Naturally, as any Pro Justifier would do, I took it as a cosmic sign that I must own this top. And bought it.

Save: Tinley Road via Piperlime

I can't wait to pair this top with pencil skirts for daytime and jeans and printed pumps for nighttime. Which top would you buy? Crave or save?

Chambray + White

Monday, July 16, 2012

There are few pairings that scream "summer" more than chambray and white. It's such an effortless combo but the end results are crisp and cool. Add a few pops of color and you're good to go. I'm a complete sucker for a ruffle detail on anything... and then I spotted the $15 price tag and was REALLY in heaven. Cute shirt for under $20! Amazing.

Top: Old Navy; Jeans: Hudson (HERE); Bag: Rebecca Minkoff (other colors HERE); Sandals: Sam Edelman; Bangles: Alex & Ani, Forever21, Bobbles & Lace Boutique; Necklace: Stella & Dot; Polish: Essie Lapis of Luxury

Have a great Monday! Hope everyone had a great weekend!

TGIF

Friday, July 13, 2012

Thank. God. It's. Friday. I swear with each passing week, the emphasis on the "G" portion of that phrase gets a bit stronger. Maybe it's the AC blues. You know, when you're stuck inside a stark office building while the sun is shining outside. (Don't get me wrong, I love work. I just wish my desk was situated on a beach overlooking the ocean... too much to ask?)

My weekends are usually the same during the summer. Eat, drink, sun myself crispy, sleep, repeat. And if you follow me on Instagram, you are already bombarded with shots of just about every meal I eat and every outfit I don.
Clockwise: Today's outfit; Strawberry Beer = to die for; Dinner on the waterfront; Ridiculous banana cheesecake crepe
Clockwise: Wednesday's outfit, Fig & Prosciutto Pizza; My "Pister" and me; Coolest bar chandelier ever

See all the fun you're missing! (Clearly I'm my biggest fan.) But if you want to join in on the overindulgence that is Instagram, you can follow me @LsFashionDish. And whether you're headed to the Cape this weekend or staying in the city, I hope you have a fabulous weekend!

See you Monday!

Hidden Gem: Renzo's Pizzeria

Thursday, July 12, 2012

Margherita Pizza
Just looking at this picture makes my mouth water. It also makes me want to rethink my decision to cut pizza out of my life until my birthday. (OK so my birthday is only a few weeks away but STILL, no pizza for three weeks is a pretty serious commitment in my book.) Normally I'm a NY style fanatic. You know, that crust that isn't quite deep dish but isn't thin and crispy either. I like to feel my carbs. The weight, the doughiness. You get what I'm saying.

But along came Renzo's and I found myself face-to-face with brick oven pizza like I've never had before. Garlicky, crispy, melty and just plain satisfying. More than satisfying. I mean I'm writing a flipping blog post about it so clearly it's something special.

"The Boulevard" (Grilled chicken with pancetta and BBQ sauce)
Be warned: you do not go to Renzo's (located on Revere Beach) for the ambiance. The view of the ocean in Revere isn't the worst but it also isn't what I would consider the best either. But you're still on the water so that counts for something, right? And on any given night you can find a suffering musician, performing under seizure-inducing disco lights, singing along to tracks that your grandparents love.

Truth be told though, after a glass of their delicious sangria, I've completely forgotten about the bad entertainment and am stuffing my face with cheesy goodness. The pizza is THAT good that we go back once every few months. Their prosciutto-wrapped asparagus appetizer is also worthy of a mention. AND you're a few miles outside of Boston so you know you're getting your money's worth.

So next time you're up for a little bit of a drive and are craving the best pizza north of the city, head to Renzo's. You'll thank me.

The Magic of a White Blazer

Wednesday, July 11, 2012

Romper: BCBGeneration (old but another fun one HERE); Blazer: H&M (similar HERE); Wedges: Famous Footwear; Necklace: Stella & Dot; Chevron rings: ASOS

Alone, this romper might have looked a bit sloppy because of its slouched fit and casual (and easily-wrinkled) material. But simply add a crisp white blazer and your favorite pair of wedges and voila, you've got yourself a bright and summery outfit perfect for date night or girls night out.

How do you dress up your casual pieces?

Scalloped Edges

Monday, July 9, 2012

It's all in the details. What immediately drew me to this shirt was the embroidery on the scalloped edges. Feminine and dainty, I just had to have it. Per Friday's post, I was originally inspired to pair the top and shorts with a pair of fringed sandals and some colorful accents. Considering I don't yet own this adorable Rebecca Minkoff bag, (it's on the birthday wish list) I opted for a neutral straw bag and my new wedges. Accessories were minimal because it was just too flipping hot out to wear anything other than a few basics. How would you style this top?

Top: Zara; Shorts: J.Crew; Bag: Michael Kors via Rue La La; Wedges: Seychelles via DSW (Thanks to Britt + Whit!); Bracelets: Boutique & F21

Have a wonderful Monday!

Saturday Style

Saturday Style

In true Friday fashion, I'm finding it impossible to focus on anything other than my weekend plans. So far, those plans consist of hitting the beach with my old roomie and taking a drive up to Marblehead to explore some of the views (read: bars). The oh-so-reliable meteorologists are forecasting another scorcher tomorrow so a lightweight and comfortable outfit is a must. I scored this cute embroidered top at the Zara sale last week and will be pairing it with my trusty cutoffs and some fun flats. Colorful accessories round out the look.

Clockwise from top left:

What are your plans for the weekend? Do you plan your outfits days in advance like me?

See you Monday!

Fruit Salsa

Thursday, July 5, 2012

Few things excite me more than dessert. And when said dessert is fairly healthy, well cue the orchestra and light the fireworks. OK so maybe sweet stuff doesn't have the magical effect on you as it does me. But that won't stop me from ranting and raving about the fruit salsa I brought to a backyard BBQ yesterday.

What You'll Need:
Two kiwi, peeled and diced
16 oz package strawberries, diced
1 white nectarine, diced
2 golden delicious apples, diced
8 oz raspberries, slightly crushed with a fork
3 tablespoons strawberry preserves
2 tablespoons granulated sugar, more or less to taste

Directions:
Dice fruits and add to a large bowl. Stir in sugar and strawberry preserves and mix well. Refrigerate for at least 15 minutes and serve with cinnamon sugar chips. I used store bought cinnamon pita chips but you can easily make your own by cutting 10 tortillas into quarters, spray with butter and top with cinnamon sugar. Bake until lightly browned and crispy.

What was on your holiday spread yesterday?

Gradient

Tuesday, July 3, 2012

Dress: Thanks to French Connection (short version HERE); Belt: J.Crew; Straw Hat: F21; Clutch: Mar Y Sol

It's impossible to nail down what type of style I'm typically drawn to. Some days it's simple and classic pieces; others it's the latest trend. Today I happen to be embracing my inner (refined) hippie. This dress is THE most comfortable piece of clothing I have ever worn. Not to mention beautiful. The ombre detail on the front of the dress make it eye-catching enough for a dressy event but the long length also makes it laid back enough for frolicking barefoot in the park.
