Off Duty

Friday, April 25, 2014

Jacket: Zara; Chambray Shirt: J.Crew Factory; Jeans: James via RueLaLa; Flats: Zara; Bag: 3.1 Phillip Lim; Sunglasses: Rayban

There's something about the color yellow that just screams "spring". I wore this outfit last weekend while my mom and sister were in town from New York. We wandered the streets of Back Bay, had a nice little lunch and did some shopping. The denim-on-denim look is something you can usually find me bumming around in when I'm outside of the office. Chic but comfy! What's your weekend uniform?

Simplicity

Crop Top: Zara; Textured Skirt: Topshop; Heels: Fendi via RueLaLa; Necklace: Chanel; Lipstick: MAC Snob

Yay for warmer weather and the ability to FINALLY wear the skirt that's been sitting in my closet for months now. I love that the black and white trend is still big right now because it's been my go-to color combo for as long as I have been able to dress myself. The full skirt/crop top duo is flattering on so many different body types -- who said you need abs to rock it?

Blue & Yellow

Monday, April 21, 2014

Blazer: Zara (old); Tank: Yumi Kim via RueLaLa; Boyfriend Jeans: BlankNYC; Heels: Zara (old)

I'm baaaaack! Have you missed me? I've certainly missed you. After a long and brutal winter, I'm finally back to posting. If you follow me on Twitter, you already know that I recently transitioned into a new position at Rue La La. For those of you who don't know, I'm now the Assistant Fashion Editor for Men's and Travel and it's been incredibly fun, hectic and so much more my cup of tea. While my new position has been so much for fulfilling, a piece of me was still missing when I wasn't sharing my favorite outfits every few days.

So anyways -- onto the outfit. I thought this was fitting to post today considering it's Marathon Monday. And while I'll be spending the day at my desk, my heart will be on Boylston Street with all the runners, survivors, fans and First Responders. The past year has proven that we are all Boston Strong and I couldn't be more proud to call this city (and Back Bay specifically) my home.

A Lesson in Layering

Wednesday, December 11, 2013

Chambray: J.Crew; Textured Sweatshirt: F21; Coated Denim: JBrand; Wedges: Pour La Victoire via RueLaLa; Necklace: BaubleBar

Sometimes there is absolutely no rhyme or reason for what I wear. Sometimes I stand in front of my closet for what feels like an hour, pondering over what to throw on. I reeeeeally wanted to wear this textured white sweatshirt but short sleeves aren't exactly conducive to December weather in New England. So out came the go-to layering piece -- my chambray shirt. And then came the coated denim pants I've been afraid to wear (no idea why, they're actual super comfortable for looking like they've been painted on...) And there you have it. My typical morning routine.

Fur Baby

Monday, December 9, 2013

Plaid: AE (old); Faux Fur Vest: BB Dakota; Leather Trim Skirt: Piperlime; Tights: Spanx; Clutch: Alexander Wang; Heels: Fendi via RueLaLa

Can you tell I was in the holiday spirit while putting this outfit together? Plaid flannel: check. Cozy (faux) fur vest: check! All these winter layers normally leave me feeling frumpy so I added the skirt to keep the silhouette feminine. Paired with jeans and boots, this outfit might scream "I want to be a lumberjack" a bit too loudly. The A-line skirt and heels give it a fun spin.

Leaf Peeping

Wednesday, October 16, 2013

Kimono: ASOS; Tee: Gap; Jeans: 7FAM; Boots: Tory Burch; Sunglasses: Ray-Ban; Nails: Essie "Mind Your Mittens"

I took a quick trip home to Central New York this past weekend to visit the fam and peep some leaves. Unfortunately most of the leaves were past peak but the view of the Adirondacks from atop McCauley Mountain more than made up for it. Fall in CNY is one of my favorite things in the world. And this bonafide city girl never forgets her rural roots. Anytime I'm feeling overwhelmed or anxious, a trip home is the perfect remedy.

Girly & Grunge

Wednesday, October 9, 2013

Jacket: F21 (old); Sweatshirt: Old Navy; Skirt: Piperlime (last year); Tights: Spanx via RueLaLa; Booties: Seychelles via RueLaLa; Watch: Michael Kors "Runway"; Bangles: Alex & Ani; Nails: Essie "Skirting the Issue"

When I ordered this jacket from Forever 21 well over a year ago, I never imagined how much use I would get out of it. It's perfect with boyfriend jeans and chucks for Saturday morning errands or a skirt and girly details for a day at the office. I love the little embellishments on this sweatshirt (which, might I add, is on sale for $17!) paired with my grungy jacket. The juxtaposition is both fun and functional... who wants to look completely pulled together anyway?

Work Appropriate

Wednesday, October 2, 2013

Dress: Zara (old); Chambray: J.Crew; Heels: Pour la Victoire via RueLaLa; Bag: 3.1 Phillip Lim; Rings: Stella & Dot; Nails: Essie "Skirting the Issue"

I ordered this dress last spring (yet another online impulse buy...ugh) and ended up majorly disappointed in the fact that it was way too low cut for my liking. Thirty days passed and I realized I forgot to return it so into the donation pile it went... Until this past weekend when I decided to give it another shot. I layered my trusty chambray underneath for a work appropriate but playful outfit perfect for our mid 70-degree weather today.

Blazer: Zara; Tank: Zara; Jeans: Hudson via Rue La La; Heels: Zara (old); Necklaces: INPINK and Stella & Dot; Glasses: Vizio Optic; Photos by Stephanie Peterson

Today's post is a twofer. It's an outfit post AND a preview of the Vizio Optic Lookbook photo shoot that I participated in a few weeks ago. How amaze are the blue frames I'm wearing above? I actually need to schedule an eye appointment (oh, the joy of aging!) and am thinking about taking these beauts home with me. What do you think?

I had so much fun shooting with Stephanie and I cannot wait to see the finished product! I'll be sure to share it here on L's Fashion Dish as well.

Summer Leather

Tuesday, July 23, 2013

Top: Zara; Leather Shorts: French Connection; Bag: Coach Legacy Collection (for sale here!); Sandals: Steve Madden; Watch: Michael Kors; Bangles: Alex & Ani; Spike Bracelet: Stella & Dot

After the last week of excessive heat & humidity (we're talking over 100 degrees on some days) I welcomed the "cooler" temps with open arms. And to celebrate, I threw on my new leather shorts. I've been on the hunt for a pair that was both well made and didn't expose my lady bits for a couple years now. This pair was a little on the pricey side but the versatility of these shorts alone made them worth the while. They'd look great with a pair of patterned tights and booties come fall or even a simple blazer and pointy pumps for something a bit dressier. How would you wear a pair of leather shorts?

Cropped

Wednesday, July 10, 2013

Blazer: Zara; Bralet: F21; Pants: F21; Heels: DSW (old); Clutch: Alexander Wang

This is about as cropped as it gets for me, folks. And even this was a step outside of my comfort zone. While I envy girls who have the ability to rock this trend with complete confidence, there's just something weird about baring my belly button to the world (unless I'm on a beach, of course.) On the flip side, I really wanted to give cropped tops a try so I figured as long as I paired it with something high-waisted, I'd be golden. Do you wear crops? What are your personal rules around showing skin?

White Vest

Wednesday, June 19, 2013

Vest: Zara; Tank: Zara; Jeans: James "Twiggy" via Rue La La; Sandals: Zara (old); Bag: Michael Kors; Bangle: Stella & Dot; Necklace: BaubleBar; Nails: OPI Alpine Snow

This isn't how I originally planned to wear this white vest. But sometimes the weather doesn't cooperate with the outfit you had in mind sooo you just have to roll with the punches, throw on some comfy jeans instead of cute jean cutoffs, add some pops of pink, and rock on with your bad self. Truth be told it was even too cold for bare shoulders so I threw a green cargo jacket over the entire ensemble and went on my merry way.

California Love

Tuesday, June 11, 2013

Dress: J.Crew Factory (on sale HERE); Wedges: Michael Kors (similar HERE); Rings: ASOS (similar HERE); Nail polish: OPI Alpine Snow

Greetings from San Francisco! Can I just move here already? The absence of humidity alone is reason enough for me to say "sayonara" to the East Coast. The weather has been perfect since I've been here and I know it's been capital C crappy in Boston the last few days so I'm really not looking forward to my flight tonight. I wore this cute little number to my cousin's graduation party on Saturday. Love the embroidery! Not to mention it was roomy enough for me to eat my weight in guacamole. AND it has pockets. JACKPOT!

Thanks Mommabear for the pics!

Summer Wind

Tuesday, June 4, 2013

Dress: J.Crew (similar HERE); Wedges: Seychelles; Bag: Michael Kors; Watch: Michael Kors; Bangles: Alex & Ani

L's Lesson of the Day: It's physically impossible to look cute when there are gale force winds ripping through your hair. I shouldn't complain too much because we had an absolutely beautiful weekend here in Boston, regardless of the "breeze". I should also be thankful the pedestrians of Cambridge weren't exposed to a Marilyn-type moment while snapping these photos. So all in all, I guess we can chalk Sunday up to a win.

Thank you to Jordan for being my photog for the day!
