Summer Wind

Tuesday, June 4, 2013

Dress: J.Crew (similar HERE); Wedges: Seychelles; Bag: Michael Kors; Watch: Michael Kors; Bangles: Alex & Ani

L's Lesson of the Day: It's physically impossible to look cute when there are gale force winds ripping through your hair. I shouldn't complain too much because we had an absolutely beautiful weekend here in Boston, regardless of the "breeze". I should also be thankful the pedestrians of Cambridge weren't exposed to a Marilyn-type moment while snapping these photos. So all in all, I guess we can chalk Sunday up to a win.

Thank you to Jordan for being my photog for the day!

Where's My Yacht?

Where's My Yacht?

Well, well, well. Look who it is. Did you think you'd never hear from me again? That I'd somehow slipped and fallen into the abyss? Sometimes I think I'm pretty funny. I'm my biggest fan actually.

Anywho, I'm like 99% sure the only person still checking my blog is my mother but hey, if you're here and reading, thanks for sticking with me! Work has been INSANE but the good news is that things are calming back down. I'm happy to report Summer Fridays have begun which basically means I leave the office at 3pm (on the dot) and by 3:15 I'm lounging by the pool. Not too shabby.

Other than pool time, summertime means nautical fashion to me. These are pieces anyone can wear or bring into the home. They aren't trendy items that will lose their appeal after a few months; nautical has been and will always be "in". I don't consider myself super preppy but I always feel like Jackie O when wearing a navy and white striped dress. Pinky out!

Have a fabulous weekend!

JoJo Loves You Bling Sale!

Friday, May 24, 2013

Memorial Day weekend is usually reserved for honoring those who have served for our country, BBQs with friends, and days at the beach. This year, I'm adding one more item to my MDW "to do" list: SHOPPING.

This weekend only (5/24-5/27), JoJoLovesYou.com is having a huge sale on their "Bling" earrings! These beauties are not your typical stud earrings. Each pair is hand-crafted in JoJo's Boston studio using gorgeous Swarovski crystals. These earrings make the perfect addition to any outfit -- casual OR dressy. Or how about a gift for that recent grad you know? Most Bling variates are on sale for 3 for $60 and Mini Blings are 3 for $50! Not to mention they offer free shipping on orders over $100.

Offer cannot be used towards previous orders and cannot be combined with any other coupon code.

Boston, You're My Home.

Tuesday, April 16, 2013

I moved to this city over six years ago on a whim. And in those six years I've grown to feel an immense sense of pride for Boston. That pride is stronger than ever today. While my faith in humanity has wavered a bit, I do believe that there is far more good than evil out there -- and that good will prevail.

A strange twist of fate kept me in the office yesterday and away from the finish line so I thankfully didn't witness yesterday's tragic and senseless events firsthand. But the horrific images are seared into my brain forever. Luckily, so are the images and stories of the heroes who ran toward the carnage instead of away. Like this man, who had experienced enough sadness for three lifetimes prior to yesterday, but ran to the aid of one of the seriously injured. And these people, who selflessly offered up their homes to displaced runners. It's hard to process exactly what went on yesterday and why. And how something like this could hit so close to my home away from home. But it's messages like these, that remind us that we are all Americans, united against darkness.

For those looking to help in any way they can, friends of mine have set up a donation fund for the victims. May we pray for those affected and hug our family and friends a little tighter today.

City Living: MiniLuxe Wellesley

Wednesday, March 20, 2013

MiniLuxe Wellesley is located at 96 Central Street

I have a confession to make. Up until recently, my skincare routine involved removing my makeup before bed and (occasionally...okay maybe more like once in a blue moon) slathering on some nighttime cream. I've been lucky that I've never had any real problems with acne and for being a late 20-something female who was a lifeguard for many years, I tend to get that I look young for my age. Next confession: before this past Saturday, I was a facial virgin. I never realized what I was missing and how beneficial they are.

The lovely folks at MiniLuxe invited me into their Wellesley location to experience their Flash Trio mini facial. Not only was it relaxing and rejuvenating, but I left with a glowing face that was dewy and softer than I'd ever felt it before. Just what the doctor ordered to cure my pasty winter skin. Donna, my esthetician, was friendly and knowledgeable. She explained every step in detail and even recommended some great skincare products for me to take home.

You can also read about my Warm Oil Mani/Pedi at the Newbury Street location here

What's your skincare routine? Do you swear by facials?

City Living: MiniLuxe Newbury Street

MiniLuxe Boston -- located at 296 Newbury Street, Boston, MA 02115 (call for an appt 857-362-7444)

I love being pampered just as much as the next girl. Especially this time of year when the weather is miserable and my skin is super dry. So when MiniLuxe invited me into their Newbury Street location for a warm oil mani and pedi, I nearly screamed with happiness.

As soon as I walked in I was warmly greeted by the receptionist. The ultra clean and trendy salon was bustling with Saturday afternoon activity but I was promptly approached by the sweetest technician I've ever encountered. The warm oil mani and pedi are like your typical manicure and pedicure but instead of getting a quick slap of lotion massaged into your skin, you are treated to an extended massage with warm, soothing oil that leaves your skin feeling soft and luxurious. I could have easily fallen asleep I was so relaxed -- especially during the pedicure. And for someone who is as tightly wound as I am, that's saying a lot.

MiniLuxe also offers facials (at the Wellesley location only) and waxing, as well as an entire wall full of their wonderful products and the cutest gifts. I am kicking myself for not picking up some of the Creme Brulee lip scrub -- it's heavenly and does wonders for cracked winter lips.

I loved their huge selection of my favorites -- OPI, Essie, & Zoya to name a few.

I ended up with Essie "Bobbing for Baubles" on my fingers and "Over the Top" on my tootsies
If you're in need of a mid-winter treat, definitely head to MiniLuxe. A quick mani/pedi or facial is just what the doctor ordered to fight cold weather depression. You won't be disappointed!

Winter Layers

Monday, January 28, 2013

Faux Fur Vest: BB Dakota; Blazer: Zara (old); Striped Blouse: Zara (recent); Jeans: 7FAM; Heels: Zara (on sale now!); Sunnies: Chloe

It's almost February and that means I've reached my threshold of winter weather. If the snow and cold only lasted from December 1-January 31, I'd be a happy girl. Then why did I choose to move to Boston, of all places? I ask myself the same question every day. I'm so sick of wearing a bulky, Michelin Man-style coat every single day and have been desperate for ways to look cute in the cold all the while staying warm. The answer? Layers, my friends. Lots of 'em.

A special thanks to Erica for snapping these pics!

Happy Monday everyone, hope you have a great day!

Overcoat

Thursday, September 20, 2012

Jacket: Zara; Blouse: Madewell (another cute version HERE); Jeans: J Brand; Clutch: Tory Burch; Bracelets: Stella & Dot and The Fashion Truck; Necklace: Stella & Dot; Rings: Stella & Dot; Heels: Zara

Fall in New England is my favorite time of year. I'm sure I'm not alone when I say it is hands down the best season for fashion. I love layering light jackets over silk blouses. This cream Zara number is so versatile because not only does it look great with jeans, but I can easily throw it over a dress for a night on the town.

Also a fun little trick -- do your sunglasses come in a cute case? Mine did! So I used it as a clutch to add instant glam to my somewhat plain outfit.

SiSi Wore Sailboats by the Seashore

Thursday, July 26, 2012

A few things about the title of this post. Most of you know me as "L". I also answer to Lindsey, Linds, Hey You, and sometimes even the dog's name (when I'm home and visiting the grandparents, of course.) But to a small crowd under the age of 8, I am known as SiSi (Cici, Sey-Sey, etc.) My godson Evan gave me this nickname when he was a tiny tot and clearly it stuck.

Second, I guess you really can't qualify this as the seashore. But it's close enough, right?

Onto the outfit... This was one of those lazy days where after dragging myself to the gym and yoga, I went back home, crawled into bed, and stayed there until ohhh, about 6pm. Then the guilt of spending the majority of a beautiful day indoors started to creep up on me. So I did what any normal human being would do: cleaned myself up, threw on this cute sailboat blouse, posed for pics, then proceeded to get really drunk off of margaritas. Now that's what I call a successful day. Don't judge.

Shirt: Old Navy; Jeans: Hudson; Necklace: BaubleBar; Wedges: Seychelles; Bangles: Alex & Ani, Bobbles & Lace Boston; Purse: F21

I'm off to NY tonight to see family and friends. See you Monday my dears!

Currently...

Wednesday, June 6, 2012

I saw this post over on Styl'n the other day and loved it so much, I had to give it a try...

currently
eating... Multi grain cheerios and strawberries. It's disturbing how many of those little red gems I eat every week. We're talking pounds (don't judge.)

reading... Just finished reading Apron Anxiety the other day. Now I'm onto 50 Shades of Gray. I need to see what all this hype is about!

watching... The morning news. It's so depressing, kind of like Boston's forecast for the next few days.

listening to... The news. And my cat slam the cupboard door open and shut. Because that's what he does now when he's hungry.

dreaming of... A life in which I could eat whatever I wanted and not gain a pound.

anticipating... The return of the sun. A day of bike riding this weekend and hopefully the beach. A reunion with my best friends in July.

loving... 1960s everything -- shift dresses, mod makeup, cat eye sunglasses.

creating... This post? And maybe a delicious and indulgent nacho recipe this weekend. Will be sure to post it next week.

appreciating... Life. And that fact that a little hard work and perseverance goes a long way.

learning... To slow down. It's so easy to zip through the days and not take a moment to reflect on how lucky each of us really are. Sappy, but true.

celebrating... My baby sister growing into a beautiful woman. I can't wait to see her graduate in a few short weeks (OMG where does the time go!) and then having her join me out here in Boston for college. I'm so excited to see what the future holds for her!

What are you currently loving, etc? I'd love to see your answers!

Old Stomping Grounds

Tuesday, June 5, 2012

Dress: VS (on sale HERE); Faux Leather Jacket: LIT Boutique; Sandals: Dolce Vita; Bag: Gucci; Necklace: Boutique; Bangles: H&M

When I moved to Boston about five and a half years ago, I lived in the charming little neighborhood of Beacon Hill. I met a girlfriend there for brunch on Sunday and even though the weather was far from nice, it didn't stop me from wandering the streets of my old stomping grounds. It's a bit overwhelming to think of all the fun I've had since I first moved here and all the great people I've met. And how many more I've yet to meet.

Thank you Lex Marciano for the great pictures! J might have some competition from now on :)

MDW Recap

Tuesday, May 29, 2012

Hi guys! Happy TUESDAY! How was your long weekend? Mine was the perfect mix of social outings and relaxing at home and on the beach. We really lucked out with the weather up here. I have a sweet sunburned nose to prove it too!

I wore this outfit to meet some friends out Saturday night. It was so humid I had to break out the mousse and embrace my crazy part wavy, part mind-of-its-own hair. It was the perfect night to spend down by the Seaport District and now that I've gotten a taste of summer, I can't wait to see what the next few months bring me.

See you tomorrow!

Not So Girly Girl

Thursday, May 17, 2012

I'm not your typical girly girl. I love heels, ribbons, ruffles and anything with a feminine shape. But then there are days when my feet can't stand to be at an awkward angle a moment longer, days where tight pants seem like cruel and unusual punishment, and days where I'm drawn to pieces that could easily be dubbed tomboy.

Case in point: this Forever21 military jacket. I could have easily paired it with my favorite boyfriend jeans and really gone to town with the whole "I'm a dude today" look, but instead I wanted to strike the perfect balance between both feminine and masculine. So I paired my jacket with a hot pink skirt. I mean really, what's more feminine than that?

Jacket: F21 (available in navy HERE); Skirt: J.Crew (in denim and on sale HERE); Tank: Gap; Shoes: Ann Taylor

This ended up being the perfect outfit for frolicking down by the water, grabbing lunch outdoors and running errands. What do you reach for when you go casual? Would you wear a look like this?
