Mustard + Leopard

Thursday, August 30, 2012

Blouse: BCBGeneration; Boyfriend Jeans: Gap; Wedges: Sole Society; Necklace: c/o INPINK; Bangles: Stella & Dot, The Fashion Truck

Great accessories take an outfit from average to interesting. Boring to beautiful. And while my outfit isn't anything groundbreaking, the leopard wedges are perfectly on trend without being too trendy, and my pendant necklace adds a pop of contrasting color to my plain blouse.

What's your favorite way to spice up an otherwise monotonous outfit?

Check back tomorrow for a super exciting giveaway! You won't want to miss this one!

Mom's Marinade + Chicken Pineapple Kabobs

Wednesday, August 29, 2012

With August coming to a close, it's more important than ever to squeeze every last bit of outdoor fun out of my weekends. So J and I got a good group together, made some amazing food and spent the day on a boat. For my part, I made some delicious chicken kabobs with my Mom's ridiculously amazing marinade.

What You'll Need:
(I usually double this)
1/4 cup ketchup
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup reduced sodium soy sauce
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons white vinegar
2 teaspoons ground ginger
generous sprinkle of garlic powder

Cut the chicken (or steak) into bite size pieces and cover with marinade. Let meat sit in the fridge for at least 2-3 hours. Alternate marinated chicken, bell peppers, onions and pineapple onto skewers. Then grill and enjoy!

I love this recipe because it's simple, it utilizes fresh summertime veggies and it's a total crowd pleaser. Plus they're easy to eat on a boat -- no silverware needed!

How are you spending the last few weeks of summer?

Leather Sleeves

Tuesday, August 28, 2012

I'm a walking contradiction. That's just how I roll. Some days I'm wishing summer away and others I'm cursing the arrival of the cooler weather. When I got dressed today, I was psyched that it was hot enough for shorts but pissed that I couldn't break out just one fall clothing item. Then I remembered this leather-sleeved tee I recently picked up from Zara. Perfect! A summery t-shirt with fall weather details. I will also have you know that I didn't want to get dressed to run errands but ended up wearing heels. Makes total sense. Just a day in the life of yours truly.

Tee: Zara; Shorts: J.Crew Factory; Heels: DSW (old); Ring & Bracelets: c/o INPINK

Like my jewelry in today's post? Stay tuned throughout the week for more awesome jewelry from INPINK! Plus a chance to win some of your very own!

Pardon My French

Friday, August 24, 2012

T-shirt: Kate Spade; Skirt: Club Monaco; Heels: Boutique 9 (on sale HERE); Necklace: Viola Jane via Etsy; Bag: Michael Kors; Bangles: F21, Bobbles & Lace

I first lusted after this shirt when the Kate Spade Fall 2012 preview launched. Months later, it's finally mine. I couldn't wait to pair it with my gold sequin collar necklace and some colorful sandals. It's the ideal Friday outfit because it easily transitions from the office to drinks out with the girls.

Enjoy the weekend!

Essie Fall 2012

Essie Fall 2012

One of the best things about transitioning from summer to fall is being able to incorporate darker colors into my wardrobe. Essie's new collection has me wishing August away and diving head first into the warm jewel tones of autumn. Whether you fancy a gorgeous oxblood shade on your fingers or lean more towards a neutral "greige", there's something for everybody.

I personally can't wait to pair jade nails with maroon skinny jeans and a beige leather jacket, similar to the picture I created above.

What color are you particularly stoked about wearing this season?

Floral Peplum

Tuesday, August 21, 2012

Blouse: Yumi Kim; Jeans: Hudson; Sandals: Zara; Bag: Michael Kors; Watch: Michael Kors

Are you sick of floral and peplum yet? Clearly I'm not. And I'll give you a little friendly warning: I've already purchased two more peplum tops for fall. I'm psyched that this trend is sticking around for another season. It's just such a fun and flirty twist on the simple blouse.

My family was in town this past weekend to move my sister into her freshman college dorm. We packed a ton into two short days -- the pictures below pretty much sum it up.

Clockwise from top left: Every weekend ends with a stop at Richie's Slush; Taylor & me after lunch; delicious bucket of Snow Crab legs at Barking Crab; Taylor's new digs

Hope your week is going well so far!

Summer Stripes

Tuesday, August 14, 2012

Soooo I totally underestimated how stressful starting a new job can be. Trying to navigate my way around a new office and attempting to remember who is who ON TOP of figuring out what to wear each day is completely exhausting. After a week of training, today was my first day being thrown to the wolves. Honestly, that's how I learn best. Needless to say though, it's been near impossible to find time to post, and for that I am sorry. But the good news is, I absolutely love the new job so far. The girls I work with are amazing and are a huge reason why I'm adjusting as quickly as I am.

Enough about that, onto today's outfit post. Immediately after I took these pictures my hair expanded about three times its usual size. True story. And I'm pretty sure jean shorts are the most uncomfortable thing to be wearing when the mercury reaches 90+ degrees. But at least they looked cute, right? Beauty is pain, my dears.

Hope your week is going swimmingly!

Colorblock Jumpsuit

Monday, August 6, 2012

Note to self: when it's 1.2 million degrees outside, a silk jumpsuit is not the best option. Cute and flattering, yes. Cool and breathable, not so much. Ah well, lesson learned.

Luckily the heat didn't stop my friends and me from frolicking around Boston Friday night. Gotta love celebrating my birthday like we're 21 again. Thank you to Val for snapping these pics!

Jumpsuit: BCBGeneration; Heels: Zara; Bag: c/o Rebecca Minkoff & Pose; Necklace: J.Crew (bracelet version HERE); Watch: Michael Kors; Hair: Blo South End

Hope everyone had a great weekend. Today is my last day of freedom before I start my new job! Have to figure out what to wear for my first day... Any suggestions?

Pajama Dressing

Friday, August 3, 2012

Some days I just don't want to get dressed. Actually that's a blatant lie. I always want to get dressed, some days I'm just a bit lazier than others. Yesterday was my (late) 20-something birthday and you'd think I would have been all geared up to dress to the nines. Nope, not the case. It was humid and I'm on a bit of a mini vacation this week so my overall pace has been a bit slower. That's where these super comfy silk shorts came into play. They feel like pajamas. Oh hell, they kind of look like pajamas too. But it's my birthday week and I'll wear pajamas if I want to.

Shorts: Club Monaco; Tee: J.Crew; Flats: Zara; Necklace: Stella & Dot; Watch: Michael Kors; Bangle: Gift from my best friend; Sunnies: Chloe

Would you wear pajama shorts like these? More importantly, do you celebrate a birthday week like me?

Trend to Try: Printed Denim

Wednesday, August 1, 2012

Printed Denim

Move over, colored denim. There's a new sheriff in town.

Printed jeans are everywhere right now. Whether you fancy polka dots, floral, or even brocade, there is a design for everyone. The key to rocking this bold trend is to balance it out with simple, classic pieces.

The three pairs featured above are a few of my favorites. I'm loving anything floral right now but come fall, I'm excited to try a pair in a subtle animal print. (Isn't that an oxymoron?)

Are you loving the printed denim trend? What pair would you wear?
