Off Duty

Friday, April 25, 2014

Jacket: Zara; Chambray Shirt: J.Crew Factory; Jeans: James via RueLaLa; Flats: Zara; Bag: 3.1 Phillip Lim; Sunglasses: Rayban

There's something about the color yellow that just screams "spring". I wore this outfit last weekend while my mom and sister were in town from New York. We wandered the streets of Back Bay, had a nice little lunch and did some shopping. The denim-on-denim look is something you can usually find me bumming around in when I'm outside of the office. Chic but comfy! What's your weekend uniform?

Simplicity

Wednesday, April 23, 2014

Crop Top: Zara; Textured Skirt: Topshop; Heels: Fendi via RueLaLa; Necklace: Chanel; Lipstick: MAC Snob

Yay for warmer weather and the ability to FINALLY wear the skirt that's been sitting in my closet for months now. I love that the black and white trend is still big right now because it's been my go-to color combo for as long as I have been able to dress myself. The full skirt/crop top duo is flattering on so many different body types -- who said you need abs to rock it?

Blue & Yellow

Blazer: Zara (old); Tank: Yumi Kim via RueLaLa; Boyfriend Jeans: BlankNYC; Heels: Zara (old)

I'm baaaaack! Have you missed me? I've certainly missed you. After a long and brutal winter, I'm finally back to posting. If you follow me on Twitter, you already know that I recently transitioned into a new position at Rue La La. For those of you who don't know, I'm now the Assistant Fashion Editor for Men's and Travel and it's been incredibly fun, hectic and so much more my cup of tea. While my new position has been so much for fulfilling, a piece of me was still missing when I wasn't sharing my favorite outfits every few days.

So anyways -- onto the outfit. I thought this was fitting to post today considering it's Marathon Monday. And while I'll be spending the day at my desk, my heart will be on Boylston Street with all the runners, survivors, fans and First Responders. The past year has proven that we are all Boston Strong and I couldn't be more proud to call this city (and Back Bay specifically) my home.

Army Green

Wednesday, February 5, 2014

Sweater: Vince via RueLaLa; Jeans: James via RueLaLa; Booties: Seychelles via RueLaLa; Necklace: BaubleBar; Clutch: Alexander Wang; Rings: Stella & Dot; Nails: OPI You Don't Know Jacques (old standby)

I know what you're thinking. Rue La La gives this bish free clothing. Nope, I just have a serious shopping problem (and with the employee discount, WHO WOULDN'T?!) These pics were snapped last Saturday when it was a balmy 43 degrees, hence the no jacket. I felt so "Top Gun" in this outfit with my aviators and my army green pants. Sidenote: these jeans are THE most comfortable pair I've ever owned. They're cut well, made of the perfect soft denim and have some stretch to them without losing shape. Let's just say they made an appearance Superbowl Sunday as well.

It's 5 Degrees and I'll Wear a Kimono if I Want To

Tuesday, January 28, 2014

Kimono: ASOS; Jeans: James via RueLaLa; Tank: AE; Bag: 3.1 Phillip Lim; Booties: Sam Edelman (last year); Necklaces: Stella & Dot, Gorjana Layer Necklace

Yes, it's WAY too cold to be baring my pasty white arms. But have you ever seen a puffy coat look chic? Me either. So for the sake of some blog photos, I shivered and smized like we were shooting in Hawaii. Speaking of Hawaii, this kimono is slightly reminiscent of my favorite tropical location. All the more reason to wear it during this never-ending polar vortex. Don't you agree?

LOVE layering dainty gold necklaces

Thank you J for the pics!

A Lesson in Layering

Wednesday, December 11, 2013

Chambray: J.Crew; Textured Sweatshirt: F21; Coated Denim: JBrand; Wedges: Pour La Victoire via RueLaLa; Necklace: BaubleBar

Sometimes there is absolutely no rhyme or reason for what I wear. Sometimes I stand in front of my closet for what feels like an hour, pondering over what to throw on. I reeeeeally wanted to wear this textured white sweatshirt but short sleeves aren't exactly conducive to December weather in New England. So out came the go-to layering piece -- my chambray shirt. And then came the coated denim pants I've been afraid to wear (no idea why, they're actual super comfortable for looking like they've been painted on...) And there you have it. My typical morning routine.

Fur Baby

Monday, December 9, 2013

Plaid: AE (old); Faux Fur Vest: BB Dakota; Leather Trim Skirt: Piperlime; Tights: Spanx; Clutch: Alexander Wang; Heels: Fendi via RueLaLa

Can you tell I was in the holiday spirit while putting this outfit together? Plaid flannel: check. Cozy (faux) fur vest: check! All these winter layers normally leave me feeling frumpy so I added the skirt to keep the silhouette feminine. Paired with jeans and boots, this outfit might scream "I want to be a lumberjack" a bit too loudly. The A-line skirt and heels give it a fun spin.

Four Eyes

Tuesday, November 19, 2013

Jacket: J.Crew Factory (old); Jeans: James via RueLaLa; Sweater: J.Crew; Heels: J.Crew; Bag: Phillip Lim; Watch: Michael Kors; Rings: Tiffany & Co., vintage; Glasses: Woow via Vizio Optic; Nails: Essie "Bobbing for Baubles"

Some mornings are spent primping and putting together a great outfit. Other mornings I'm lucky if I make it out the door with the same shoes on both feet (yes, that's actually happened.) Today was somewhere in the middle -- got a good night's sleep but also didn't have the energy or desire to dress up. So out came my uniform -- skinny jeans, comfy heels and a sweater. Lately my uniform has also included my fabulous new glasses from Vizio Optic. They're not only functional (thank you, astigmatism!) but they look cute too. They're the perfect addition to any outfit and make me feel sophisticated and pulled together.

Rue La La Wishlist!

Tuesday, November 12, 2013

I LOVE the holidays for many reasons. To me, the holidays mean cozy nights spent wrapped in blankets with those you love, festive parties with great friends, weekends spent baking Christmas goodies, and running around like a crazy woman trying to shop for everyone on my list. Luckily, Rue La La has made it super easy for me this year. Their one-stop-shop website makes it easy to browse gifts for the boyfriend, best friend, dog walker and mother-in-law all in one place.

Check out my Rue La La Wishlist to see what I'm coveting this season. Luxury sheets, a leather wrap bracelet, the perfect feminine watch. Oh, and a few great ideas for everyone else on my list too. (What! I've been a good girl this year!)

Happy Shopping!

Shades of Fall

Thursday, November 7, 2013

Jacket: Calvin Klein via RueLaLa.com; Sweater: Free People; Jeans: James via RueLaLa.com; Booties: Sam Edelman; Bag: 3.1 Phillip Lim; Scarf: Bobbles & Lace

Fall is probably my favorite time of year in New England. We were especially lucky this year with a long and mild fall... plenty of cool days to enjoy my cozy autumn layers but also plenty of warmer, sunny days perfect for outdoor activities like apple picking and biking. This sweater and jeans combo is my go-to September through November. Comfortable, cute and casual.

Girly & Grunge

Wednesday, October 9, 2013

Jacket: F21 (old); Sweatshirt: Old Navy; Skirt: Piperlime (last year); Tights: Spanx via RueLaLa; Booties: Seychelles via RueLaLa; Watch: Michael Kors "Runway"; Bangles: Alex & Ani; Nails: Essie "Skirting the Issue"

When I ordered this jacket from Forever 21 well over a year ago, I never imagined how much use I would get out of it. It's perfect with boyfriend jeans and chucks for Saturday morning errands or a skirt and girly details for a day at the office. I love the little embellishments on this sweatshirt (which, might I add, is on sale for $17!) paired with my grungy jacket. The juxtaposition is both fun and functional... who wants to look completely pulled together anyway?

BostInno Fall Lookbook

Tuesday, September 10, 2013

Leather Peplum Top: Bobbles & Lace; Collared Blouse: J.Crew Factory; Jeans: JBrand; Necklace: Bobbles & Lace; Clutch: Bobbles & Lace; Wedges: Pour la Victoire via RueLaLa; Rings: Stella & Dot

When BostInno asked me to put together a look for fall that I'd wear for a night out in Back Bay, I knew right away I wanted to incorporate my favorite fall staple: leather (faux, vegan or the real deal!) I softened the look up by adding a white blouse underneath and a detailed necklace. My wedges make navigating the brick and cobblestone sidewalks a cinch! Head over to BostInno.com to see MY LOOK and check out the full Fall Lookbook!

Blazer: Zara; Tank: Zara; Jeans: Hudson via Rue La La; Heels: Zara (old); Necklaces: INPINK and Stella & Dot; Glasses: Vizio Optic; Photos by Stephanie Peterson

Today's post is a twofer. It's an outfit post AND a preview of the Vizio Optic Lookbook photo shoot that I participated in a few weeks ago. How amaze are the blue frames I'm wearing above? I actually need to schedule an eye appointment (oh, the joy of aging!) and am thinking about taking these beauts home with me. What do you think?

I had so much fun shooting with Stephanie and I cannot wait to see the finished product! I'll be sure to share it here on L's Fashion Dish as well.

Orange & White

Thursday, August 1, 2013

Top: Viva Diva Boutique; Jeans: Vince via Rue La La; Sandals: Kelsi Dagger; Clutch: Alexander Wang; Watch: Michael Kors; Bangles: Alex & Ani; Sunnies: Chloe

It's Thursday, and I'm tired. And sore. And sometimes I just want to throw on my favorite pair of jeans, a flattering [read: loose but still looks like I've "tried"] top, and run out the door. That's exactly what my coworkers are getting today. Nothing more, nothing less. I love the way this top is cut -- it hits at the right spot on the hip and creates a slimming effect. Which I'm obviously always fond of.
