Leather Repeat

Thursday, September 5, 2013

Blouse: Zara; Shorts: French Connection; Heels: Shoemint (old); Bag: 3.1 Phillip Lim Medium Pashli; Necklaces: Stella & Dot, Madewell; Rings: Topshop, Stella & Dot

These shorts have been on repeat as of late. Why? Because they're the perfect summer to fall transitional piece. Once the temps dip a bit lower, all I have to do is add a fun pair of tights and a chunky sweater and head on my way. Oh, and I may or may not have a new friend named Pashli. Isn't she cute?

Leather Jacket

Thursday, November 8, 2012

Leather Jacket: Elie Tahari (similar HERE); Blouse: Madewell; Boyfriend jeans: Gap (similar HERE); Heels: Zara; Bag: Michael Kors; Sunnies: Chloe; Ring: Bobbles & Lace, Portsmouth, NH

Say hello to my favorite piece in my closet (at the moment). I scored this Elie Tahari 100% genuine leather jacket jacket in our most recent Rue Associate Sample Sale. The best part? I only paid $25 for it. Incredible because it retails for over $400. Now that's what I call amazing employee benefits!

These shots are the last of the ones snapped by my favorite photog Kim. I don't know what else to say other than SHE'S AMAZING. I wish we could play dress up and have photo shoots every day!

Have a great weekend loves!

Mixing Patterns: What Works?

Mixing Patterns: What Works?

This trend has been splattered all over the runways and magazines for months. Well years, really, but it's made an especially big splash in the fashion world as of late. The problem is that what works on the runway doesn't necessary translate into real life. Throwing any two (or three) patterns together does not an outfit make. Write that down.

For me, having similar colors in both pieces is an absolute must. While I loved Refinery29's mixed pattern tutorial featuring the leopard cardi and polka dot tunic, it doesn't follow my aforementioned rule. Therefore I would never feel comfortable pulling it off.

The second outfit is right up my alley. Fun and practical (in mixing pattern terms, of course) and I might even be able to rock them at the office. Which is always a plus.

The third is very close to what Annie from The Other Side of Gray is wearing today. I love how she paired the floral cardigan with the bold stripes. It works (and well, might I add) because it's balanced and anchored down by simple but cute skinny black jeans.

What are your thoughts on this trend? Would you wear outfits like these or do you think they evoke too much of a "hot mess" vibe?

Hello Spring!

Monday, March 19, 2012

Happy Monday everyone! Hope you had a great St. Patty's Day weekend. How amazing is this weather we're having? If it weren't for my allergies wreaking havoc on my life yesterday, I would have spent the entire day outdoors. My wonderful photog "J" snapped these pictures during a stroll at Admiral's Hill in Chelsea, MA. I love the view of Boston from up there.

Blouse: Madewell; Shorts: Anthropologie (here); Flats: Zara; Watch: Michael Kors;
Bangles: Alex & Ani; Polish: Essie Turquoise & Caicos

The winner of the Viola Jane giveaway is Louis! Congrats! I hope you enjoy the sequin collar as much as I have.

Everybody Loves an Irish Girl!

St. Patty's Day
In this set:
Clockwise from left

St. Patrick's Day is one of those fun holidays where even those who aren't Irish enjoy dressing the part. You can go all out, or as I like to do, incorporate one or two green pieces into my outfit.

Being part of the St. Patty's Day fun doesn't mean you have to sacrifice style! Mint denim is everywhere right now. What's better than showcasing them on a holiday where even the beer is green?

Don't want to resemble the Green Monster? Pop an emerald statement necklace over an everyday outfit and you're instantly back in the game.

Erin go Bragh!

Socks

Friday, February 3, 2012

I've long been dying to wear socks with my heels, booties, loafers, etc... buuut I've never been sure if it looks really good on me or absolutely ridiculous. I'm kind of on the fence. My office environment is pretty conservative so a look like this wouldn't fly but maybe I could swap the blouse out for something a bit more casual and wear it for a night out with friends? Or try it with simple pumps and cute patterned socks? Hmm. I think I see a future "How To" blog post coming out of this...

Blouse: Madewell; Skirt: Anthropologie; Booties: DV Dolce Vita; Socks: AE

What do you think about this look? How would you wear socks with your shoes?

On another note, we made it through another week! Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend. Isn't there some big football game on Sunday? Ha. The only thing I care about when it comes to Superbowl Sunday is the yummy food! Bring on the stretchy pants!

Outfit Inspiration: Pink Blazers

Thursday, January 19, 2012

I've been on the hunt for a bright pink blazer for some time now. I was really lusting after this Preen version but since I don't have $1700 to spend on a trend like this, I opted for this cute Forever21 one instead.

I originally wanted a pink blazer to pair with a white sundress come summertime, but now that I own one, I totally think it works for any season. I love how each celebrity below styled hers. I will definitely be using these photos for inspiration going forward!

I decided to pair my pop of pink with a simple, classic outfit. Add a fun necklace, my trusty MK watch, some bangles, and there you have it. Perfect for work or play! You could also have some more fun with this by throwing it over some cobalt jeans for the whole colorblocking look. Or how about a navy & white striped tee underneath for something more casual? The point is to have fun with a piece like this!

Blazer: F21; Blouse: Madewell; Jeans: Gap; Heels: Charles David

Plum Cords

Wednesday, January 4, 2012

It's no secret I'm a huge fan of colored cords this year (see this previous post...and this one too!) And when I first spotted these plum cords, I had to have them.

And it was after I photographed this outfit that I officially decided I'm going to invest in a DSLR camera. You can hardly appreciate the beautiful color and texture of the cords with my current camera.

Blouse: Madewell; Plum Cords: 7 for all Mankind; Flats: Zara; Necklace: Stella & Dot;
Watch: Michael Kors; Bracelet: Stella & Dot; Bangles: Alex & Ani

Isn't my bib necklace fun? It's on sale right now at Stella & Dot!

And you can also save an additional 20% on my plum cords using coupon code LIME at Piperlime.

If anyone has any suggestions as to what DSLR camera I should look into, by all means, your advice is welcome!

Friday Sparkle

Friday, December 9, 2011

Do you ever have those days where you just really don't want to get out of bed? Today was one of those days for me. It was cold and dark and I needed something to give me a little extra hop in my step. Luckily (for the sake of my co-workers and anyone who has to come in contact with me today) a disasterous mood was averted when I remembered I had a brand new shimmery sweater to wear. Instantly, my depressing frown was turned upsidedown. See what adding a little sparkle can do?

Metallic Sweater: ASOS; Collared Blouse: Madewell (similar); Grey pants: American Apparel
Black Pumps: Charles David; Watch: Michael Kors (old); Bangles: Alex & Ani

Save 25% off orders of $150+ at Madewell today! (No coupon code needed.)

PLUS my ASOS sweater is on sale!

Happy Friday loves! I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend.

Outfit Inspriation: Faux Is The Way To Go!

Thursday, November 3, 2011

I remember my very first pair of faux leather pants. I was a freshman in high school. Mom & Dad were out of town that weekend so I announced to my friends that I was going to have a party. Naturally that meant I needed a cute new outfit to host in. I went straight to H&M and picked up a pair of black faux leather pants, a hot pink sweater and a pink sparkly belt (haven't we all played the part of fashion victim at some point in our lives?)

Fast forward several years and I'm back at H&M lusting over a similar pair of leather leggings. Luckily this time around I know a bit more about how to make them look good.

I've been seeing so many pictures of celebs and models wearing leather pants or leggings with over-the-top fur vests. And I'm in love.

SO in love, in fact, that I gave it a shot myself! What do you think?
