A Lesson in Layering
Wednesday, December 11, 2013
Chambray: J.Crew; Textured Sweatshirt: F21; Coated Denim: JBrand; Wedges: Pour La Victoire via RueLaLa; Necklace: BaubleBar
Sometimes there is absolutely no rhyme or reason for what I wear. Sometimes I stand in front of my closet for what feels like an hour, pondering over what to throw on. I reeeeeally wanted to wear this textured white sweatshirt but short sleeves aren't exactly conducive to December weather in New England. So out came the go-to layering piece -- my chambray shirt. And then came the coated denim pants I've been afraid to wear (no idea why, they're actual super comfortable for looking like they've been painted on...) And there you have it. My typical morning routine.

Fur Baby
Monday, December 9, 2013
Plaid: AE (old); Faux Fur Vest: BB Dakota; Leather Trim Skirt: Piperlime; Tights: Spanx; Clutch: Alexander Wang; Heels: Fendi via RueLaLa
Can you tell I was in the holiday spirit while putting this outfit together? Plaid flannel: check. Cozy (faux) fur vest: check! All these winter layers normally leave me feeling frumpy so I added the skirt to keep the silhouette feminine. Paired with jeans and boots, this outfit might scream "I want to be a lumberjack" a bit too loudly. The A-line skirt and heels give it a fun spin.

Holiday Dressing
Thursday, November 21, 2013
My company holiday party is a few short weeks away and I can't help but daydream about this amazing skirt by SKOT for the occasion. Paired with a mohair sweater and some classic pumps, this outfit is not only perfect for the holidays but each piece would get plenty of wear outside of the season. And is this BaubleBar necklace to die for or what? Definitely a bit on the dressy side but could also look great with a t-shirt and boyfriend jeans. What do you wear to your holiday gatherings?

Four Eyes

Jacket: J.Crew Factory (old); Jeans: James via RueLaLa; Sweater: J.Crew; Heels: J.Crew; Bag: Phillip Lim; Watch: Michael Kors; Rings: Tiffany & Co., vintage; Glasses: Woow via Vizio Optic; Nails: Essie "Bobbing for Baubles"
Some mornings are spent primping and putting together a great outfit. Other mornings I'm lucky if I make it out the door with the same shoes on both feet (yes, that's actually happened.) Today was somewhere in the middle -- got a good night's sleep but also didn't have the energy or desire to dress up. So out came my uniform -- skinny jeans, comfy heels and a sweater. Lately my uniform has also included my fabulous new glasses from Vizio Optic. They're not only functional (thank you, astigmatism!) but they look cute too. They're the perfect addition to any outfit and make me feel sophisticated and pulled together.

Rue La La Wishlist!
Tuesday, November 12, 2013
I LOVE the holidays for many reasons. To me, the holidays mean cozy nights spent wrapped in blankets with those you love, festive parties with great friends, weekends spent baking Christmas goodies, and running around like a crazy woman trying to shop for everyone on my list. Luckily, Rue La La has made it super easy for me this year. Their one-stop-shop website makes it easy to browse gifts for the boyfriend, best friend, dog walker and mother-in-law all in one place.
Check out my Rue La La Wishlist to see what I'm coveting this season. Luxury sheets, a leather wrap bracelet, the perfect feminine watch. Oh, and a few great ideas for everyone else on my list too. (What! I've been a good girl this year!)
Happy Shopping!

Shades of Fall
Thursday, November 7, 2013
Jacket: Calvin Klein via RueLaLa.com; Sweater: Free People; Jeans: James via RueLaLa.com; Booties: Sam Edelman; Bag: 3.1 Phillip Lim; Scarf: Bobbles & Lace
Fall is probably my favorite time of year in New England. We were especially lucky this year with a long and mild fall... plenty of cool days to enjoy my cozy autumn layers but also plenty of warmer, sunny days perfect for outdoor activities like apple picking and biking. This sweater and jeans combo is my go-to September through November. Comfortable, cute and casual.

Holiday at the Tannery
Tuesday, October 22, 2013
Dress: Porter Grey; Heels: Jimmy Choo -- both available at The Tannery
Yesterday's outfit from The Tannery was a great example of something I would wear to grab drinks with girlfriends after a busy day at work. Today's outfit is a bit dressier and something I can wear to a birthday party (just add a leather jacket), running around the office (with a blazer and flats) OR this year's company holiday party (paired with opaque black tights, a statement necklace and a cute wool cape). I love the colorblock detail and the flirty shape -- perfect for so many different occasions.

Curated at the Tannery

All pieces available at The Tannery (blouse: A.L.C.; Jeans: JBrand; Booties: Saint Laurent)
I've lived in Boston for just about seven years now and consider myself fairly "in the know" when it comes to fashion and where to shop. I'd visited The Tannery in the past but never knew until recently that they offered anything other than amazing footwear. Imagine my surprise when I learned that they carried some of the hottest brands (think 3.1 Phillip Lim and Rag & Bone) and even some that can only be found at The Tannery.
The top floor of their Boylston Street location is dedicated to showcasing great pieces for both men and women. Denim brands such as Citizens of Humanity, Joe's, BLK and Paige are available in all colors and sizes. Great leather and tweed jackets dot the walls in between racks of killer dresses and blouses.
I got to play dress up with a few of the newest pieces including this A.L.C. blouse and these ridiculously chic Saint Laurent booties. It's hard not to feel like a complete powerhouse with these bad boys on.
Hello lover... |
Does the BF need a wardrobe overhaul? Look no further... plenty of cashmere sweaters and tailored jackets to get him ready for the long winter.
To see any of these pieces, head to 711 Boylston Street or call 617-267-5500. For a full list of brands available at The Tannery, please click HERE.

Leaf Peeping
Wednesday, October 16, 2013
Kimono: ASOS; Tee: Gap; Jeans: 7FAM; Boots: Tory Burch; Sunglasses: Ray-Ban; Nails: Essie "Mind Your Mittens"
I took a quick trip home to Central New York this past weekend to visit the fam and peep some leaves. Unfortunately most of the leaves were past peak but the view of the Adirondacks from atop McCauley Mountain more than made up for it. Fall in CNY is one of my favorite things in the world. And this bonafide city girl never forgets her rural roots. Anytime I'm feeling overwhelmed or anxious, a trip home is the perfect remedy.

Girly & Grunge
Wednesday, October 9, 2013
Jacket: F21 (old); Sweatshirt: Old Navy; Skirt: Piperlime (last year); Tights: Spanx via RueLaLa; Booties: Seychelles via RueLaLa; Watch: Michael Kors "Runway"; Bangles: Alex & Ani; Nails: Essie "Skirting the Issue"
When I ordered this jacket from Forever 21 well over a year ago, I never imagined how much use I would get out of it. It's perfect with boyfriend jeans and chucks for Saturday morning errands or a skirt and girly details for a day at the office. I love the little embellishments on this sweatshirt (which, might I add, is on sale for $17!) paired with my grungy jacket. The juxtaposition is both fun and functional... who wants to look completely pulled together anyway?

Work Appropriate
Wednesday, October 2, 2013
Dress: Zara (old); Chambray: J.Crew; Heels: Pour la Victoire via RueLaLa; Bag: 3.1 Phillip Lim; Rings: Stella & Dot; Nails: Essie "Skirting the Issue"
I ordered this dress last spring (yet another online impulse buy...ugh) and ended up majorly disappointed in the fact that it was way too low cut for my liking. Thirty days passed and I realized I forgot to return it so into the donation pile it went... Until this past weekend when I decided to give it another shot. I layered my trusty chambray underneath for a work appropriate but playful outfit perfect for our mid 70-degree weather today.

Vizio Optic Fall Lookbook
Wednesday, September 25, 2013
You might remember about a month back when I previewed a project I was working on with Vizio Optic, a local designer sun and eyeglasses boutique located in Brookline. Well I'm happy to announce that the final lookbook is here! I, along with four other Boston bloggers, got to play dress up with beautiful frames. It was hard choosing just three to shoot! We had so much fun working with Galina, Kristen and Stephanie. And as my luck would have it, I ended up needing prescription glasses so naturally I went with a great pair from Vizio. Can't wait to debut them on the blog soon!

Sweater Weather
Wednesday, September 18, 2013
Sweater Coat: BB Dakota c/o Crush Boutique gift card; T-shirt: VS; Jeans: James via RueLaLa; Boots: Tory Burch; Bag: 3.1 Phillip Lim; Hat: H&M
This time of year brings out the indecisive side of my personality. The "I really don't want summer to end" part of me battles daily with the "I'm dying to wear this new sweater today" part. Well on this particular occasion, the latter won. It was just chilly enough on the waterfront that I didn't look too ridiculous in my getup. Do you have a fall item you can't wait to wear? If so, what is it? By the way: you can thank the song "Sweater Weather" by The Neighbourhood for the oh-so-fitting title of today's blog post. So good!
Thanks Jordan for the pics! |
